The Great Western Greenway is a multi-purpose trail (known as a "greenway") in the west of Ireland. It runs from Westport to Achill Island, mainly along the route of a disused railway, completely separate from road traffic. Its total length is 42km.

The greenway is renowned for its spectacular views of Clew Bay. It starts off near the centre of Westport, running northwards close to the N59 road as far as Newport. From there, it starts to veer west and heads across the wild open countryside, across rivers and streams, with mountainous views all around. The final section is Mulranny to the bridge at Achill Sound, the gateway to the stunning Achill Island.

The Great Western Greenway is designed for cycling, walking, running etc.

Our app uses geolocation to show you nearby attractions, places to eat, drink, sleep, car parks, access points, bike hire shops, general shops and even toilets. This makes it the must-have guide for your Great Western Greenway visit.

The app also has a feedback form where we look forward to hearing from you.
